The Man Behind the Hits
George Tobin is an accomplished record producer known for his work with a wide range of musical artists, including Robert John, Smokey Robinson, Kim Carnes, Kicking Harold, and PC Quest. He is perhaps best recognized for discovering, managing, and producing teen pop sensation Tiffany, famously launching her career through a national mall tour that became a cultural phenomenon.
Tobin operated a large recording studio complex in North Hollywood, California — a creative hub often used for demos, radio spots, and commercial production. It was there that he first heard a 12-year-old Tiffany recording a demo. Recognizing her potential instantly, he began managing and producing her, leading to the release of multi platinum-selling albums. Under Tobin’s direction, Tiffany toured extensively, including a run with New Kids on the Block, cementing her place in pop history.
Tobin also produced the album Dreams Never Die. With a legacy rooted in artist development, hit-making production, and an eye for talent, George Tobin remains a respected figure in the music industry.
Studio Sound Recorders
In the 1990s, Tobin made a strategic move by acquiring the call letters KMMK-FM in Las Vegas, Nevada. He promptly shifted the station’s format from a Melissa Etheridge-style adult contemporary to a bold, hard-hitting modern rock format.
The change proved wildly successful, quickly propelling the station to the number one spot across every demographic in the market. To this day, KEDG-FM remains the highest-rated modern rock station in the history of the format.
